ACT 5: NIGHT IN THE 'HOOD

DAYTIME: CAMERA PANS HORIZON OF CENTRUM FROM RIGHT TO LEFT. GOES UP AND DOWN TINY

BRICK STREETS. LENS SEE QUAINT, QUIET, OLD-FASHIONED DUTCH NEIGHBORHOOD WITH LITTLE
ACTIVITY.

DIVA(narrating) As quiet as it is in the daytime, my neighborhood comes alive when it gets dark.

NEIGHBORHOOD DARKENS AS CAMERA CONTINUES MOVING THROUGH THE LITTLE STREETS. CAMERA
STOPS AT SPEEDY'S HOUSE.

DIVA (narrating) Sometimes its so lively here that you can't sleep.

TWO-SHOT OF SPEEDY AND DIVA TRYING TO SLEEP.

DIVA(narrating) There's the neighbors across the street that party once or twice a week. They play this terrible, old-fa shioned
Dutch music
so loud that people in Haarlem can hear it.

SHOT OF HOUSE ACROSS THE STREET. ALL THE LIGHTS ARE ON AND THE SILHOUETTES OF LOTS OF
PEOPLE ARE SEEN THROUGH THE WINDOWS. PEOPLE ARE LAUGHING AND TALKING AS DUTCH SONG
ACHTER DE HEUVELS OR SOMETHING SIMILAR IS PLAYED.

TWO-SHOT OF SPEEDY AND DIVA TRYING TO SLEEP.

DIVA(narrating) Then there's the neighbors next door. We've never seen what they look like, but we do know what they're like

SOUNDS OF GROANS & ANIMAL-TYPE GROWLS, THEN THE SOUNDS OF A BED BANGING HARD AND
FAST, FOLLOWED BY MORE GROANS & A FEW SCREAMS. WORDS LIKE "LEKKER NOKKEN" ARE BARELY
HEARD OVER THE OTHER NOISES.

ONE-SHOT OF A FRAMED PICTURE OF A DOWN-HILL RACER ON THE WALL. IT BEGINS TO MOVE ON THE
WALL.

DIVA (narrating) You'd never know that there was a brick wall between them and us.

ONE-SHOT OF MERI SLEEPING ON THE SOFA. HER FACE IS TIRED AND MISERABLE AS SHE PUTS THE
PILLOW OVER HER HEAD TO DROWN OUT THE SOUNDS OF ESCALATING PASSION.

DIVA (narrating) Sometimes, Speedy, Meri & Me wait on porch on the roof and try to see what these people look like.

SHOT OF AN OVERGROWN AND WEEDY GARDEN THAT NO ONE COULD WALK THROUGH WITHOUT A
MACHETE.

DIVA(narrating) But these people never come out, not even to weed their jungle.

TWO-SHOT OF SPEEDY AND DIVA TRYING TO SLEEP AGAIN. SOUNDS OF ANIMAL PASSION AND A
TARZAN-LIKE YODEL.

TWO-SHOT OF SPEEDY AND DIVA IN BED LAUGHING.

DIVA(narrating) That's because they're too busy fucking all the time to do anything else.

SHOT OF MERI PUSHING THE PILLOW HARDER INTO HER HEAD.

DIVA (narrating) If the neighbors are passed out from beer or passion, then the cats will keep you up.

TWO-SHOT OF SPEEDY AND DIVA LISTENING TO CATS FIGHT LOUDLY OUTSIDE IN THE ALLEY. SOUNDS
OF NEIGHBORS OPENING THEIR WINDOWS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT AND YELLING IN DUTCH FOR
THE CATS TO SHUT UP.

DIVA (narrating) Of course no one ever complains if it is one cat that is making all the noise.

TWO-SHOT OF SPEEDY AND DIVA LISTENING TO ONE CAT GROWL DEEPLY FROM THE THROAT. A FEW
HISSES FOLLOWED BY SOME MEAN MEOWS AND THEN SOME MEAN, LOUD, LOW GROWLS.

DIVA(narrating) That's because rats don't make any sounds. The cat is probably wrestling a rat as big as they are.

ONE-SHOT OF MERI LISTENING TO THE GROWLING IN FASCINATION, FOLLOWED BY A TWO-SHOT OF
SPEEDY AND DIVA LISTENING IN FASCINATION.

DIVA (narrating) Its something you don't want to listen to, but when you're forced to listen, it's real fascinating. Even the couple
next door stops knockin' klompens when a cat gets a rat.

SHOT OF FRAMED PHOTOGRAPH STOPS SHAKING ON WALL.

DISSOLVE TO NEXT SCENE.
