FADE IN:

 

LONG SHOT FROM CEILING OF A MODERN DUTCH LIVING ROOM WITH TWO WORN SOFAS, THREE

CHAIRS THAT ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FROM EACH OTHER, A BIG COFFEE TABLE IN THE CENTER.

SHELVES ON THE WALL ARE LOADED WITH STEREO AND ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT. A BIG SCREEN TV

SITS IN THE CORNER. LARGE AMSTEL AND WARSTEINER BEER SIGNS HANG ON THE WALLS ALONG

WITH A POSTER OF BOB MARLEY AND ANOTHER POSTER WITH AN ALIEN ON IT WITH A JOINT THAT

SAYS "TAKE ME TO YOUR DEALER."

 

SLOWLY FADE IN PEOPLE AND THREE DOGS (LARGE, MEDIUM AND SMALL) TO FILL THE FURNITURE

AND ROOM. PEOPLE SLOWLY BEGIN TO MOVE UNTIL THEY MOVE NORMALLY. ZOOM IN TO PARTY, PAST

PARTIERS TO DIVA. SHE IS SITTING WITH SPEEDY AND WRITING IN A NOTEBOOK. MERI IS DANCING IN

THE BACKGROUND.

 

DIVA(narrating) Hashoe is one of our good friends. He is too much material for any writer.

 

CAMERA PANS RIGHT, PAST SPEEDY TO TWO-SHOT OF SPEEDY AND HASHOE HAVING AN ANIMATED

DISCUSSION IN DUTCH. HASHOE IS ABOUT 35, HAS LONG HAIR THAT HANGS LOOSE, AND WEARS A

MUSTACHE. HE IS TALL, LEAN AND FIT LIKE SPEEDY, ALTHOUGH HE IS GETTING A BEER GUT.

 

DIVA(narrating) He likes hardcore, extreme sports like Speedy. Hashoe likes t o have people around, so its always a party with

him.

 

Although he doesn't speak English and I don't speak Dutch, we communicate very well.

 

CLOSEUP OF HASHOE TALKING, MERI STILL DANCING IN THE BACKGROUND

 

DIVA (narrating) Hashoe is in love with love. Although he has no one, he wears a wedding ring on his finger as a symbol of

hope. Speedy told me that Hashoe has worn this ring since Marga, the love of his life, broke up with him years ago.

 

CLOSEUP OF HASHOE'S HAND AROUND A BEER BOTTLE, ZOOM IN TO PLAIN GOLD WEDDING RING.

 

DIVA(laughs to herself as she narrating) He has a new hobby every week and they get more interesting all the time.

 

One time, he had a gambling machine.

 

OVERLAP AND SEGUE MEDIUM SHOT OF A LARGE MACHINE IN THE CORNER OF THE ROOM. MERI IS

PLAYING IT AND HITS THE JACKPOT.

 

CUT TO FIVE SHOT OF SPEEDY, HASHOE AND THE THREE DOGS ON HASHOE'S LAP.

 

DIVA (narrating) Another time, he had these little cars . . .

 

VARIOUS SHOTS OF SPEEDY AND HASHOE RACING LITTLE MOTORIZED HOBBY CARS IN A PARKING LOT.

 

DIVA (narrating) He once bought one of those blow-up rafts for twenty euros. (Laughs) He took out to the sea and one of the

aluminum paddles broke.

 

MEDIUM SHOT OF HASHOE ON A RAFT IN THE OCEAN WITH HIS THREE DOGS. ONE OF THE PADDLES IS

BROKEN.

 

DIVA He started getting swept out to sea, so he had to jump in the ocean. Hashoe lost his phone and wallet on that hobby.

 

CUT TO SCENE OF A BUNCH OF LITTLE PUPPIES.

 

DIVA Then there was puppy breeding and he's had computers.

 

CLOSEUP OF DIVA THINKING

 

DIVAHashoe does have a couple of hobbies he sticks with.

 

ONE-SHOT OF HIM RACING GO- KARTS IN LIMMON.

 

LONGSHOT OF HIM AND SPEEDY PARACHUTING ALONG THE BEACH IN EDMOND ANN ZEE.

 

TWO-SHOT OF HIM AND SPEEDY MOTOCROSSING IN WIJK ANN ZEE.

 

DIVA (narrating) And of course, he has this hobby

DIVA(narrating) Almost everyone in the room has this hobby. That's how they keep the party at Hashoe's going. And when all

these guys get together, guess what they to talk about the most? Growing blow. Then they talk about women, then about sports.

 

Growing marijuana is legal in Holland as you don't have more than five plants. The trick for Hashoe and his boys i s to make

marijuana plants produce more yield while cutting the growing time. These guys are almost scientists when it comes to growing

marijuana. They are some excellent hobby farmers.

 

CAMERA WATCHES PARTIERS ROLL JOINTS AND PASS THEM.

 

DIVA(narrating) Hashoe or his dogs always make me laugh. His dogs like to party like their master

 

THREE-SHOT OF HASHOE'S DOGS EYEING A BOTTLE OF BEER ON THE COFFEE TABLE. THE DOGS LOOK

AT EACH OTHER AS IF TRYING TO FIND A VOLUNTEER. THE BIG DOG GETS UP, WALKS BY THE BEER,

CURLS HIS TAIL AROUND IT AND KNOCKS IT OVER. THE OTHER TWO DOGS SCRAMBLE TO LICK UP THE

BEER WITH THE BIG ONE.

 

ONE-SHOT OF MERI SITTING BY HERSELF LIGHTING A JOINT. SHE LOOKS TO SEE THAT SHE'S

SURROUNDED BY HASHOE'S DOGS TRYING TO GET THEIR FACES CLOSE TO THE SMOKE SO THEY CAN

GET A CONTACT HIGH.

 

 

MERI (to dogs) Go away, I'm not going to help you get high!

 

ONE-SHOT OF FRONT-PAGE STORY OF AMERICAN GUY POSING WITH A BUNCH OF GOLD COINS ON A

TABLE.

 

DIVA(narrating) Recently, some American guy found a cache of gold Roman coins right outside Alkmaar. He found them with

a metal detector. Now Hashoe wants one.

 

Hashoe's favorite hobby is his outlaw radio station called Sonic FM. He's had it for years and he has a lot of loyal listeners. One

of the reasons so many people listen is because he likes to leave his mike on when he parties. This way it always stays fresh and

crazy.

 

FADE OUT AND FADE INTO ANOTHER PARTY IN THE SAME ROOM SEVERAL WEEKS BEFORE.

 

DIVA(narrating) We usually stay home on Saturday nights if Speedy isn't playing with his band, but on that Saturday night, we

decided to visit Hashoe.

 

Everyone was getting pretty drunk. Including Frankie, Hashoe's best friend

 

CLOSEUP OF FRANKIE, A 40-ISH GERMAN WITH SHORT HAIR, FAT AND A RUDDY FACE. ALWAYS HAS A

SMILE.

 

DIVA He's a German but he acts Dutch and speaks perfect Dutch

 

DIVA (narrating) Jan

 

CLOSEUP OF JAN, A DUTCHMAN IN HIS LATE 30'S WITH LONG HAIR AND HIS ARMS ARE COVERED WITH

AMERICAN INDIAN TATTOOS. HE ALSO WEARS A T-SHIRT WITH AN AMERICAN INDIAN ON IT.

 

DIVA (narrating) Andreas

 

CLOSEUP OF ANDREAS, A YOUNG DUTCHMAN IN HIS MID-TWENTIES. HE HAS SHORT, STYLED HAIR AND

WEARS DRESS CLOTHES.

 

DIVA (narrating) and Pim

 

CLOSEUP OF PIM, A DUTCHMAN IN HIS EARLY 30'S. HAIR IS MEDIUM LONG. WEARS A FLANNEL SHIRT

AND JEANS.

 

CAMERA TRUC KS BACK TO A GROUP SHOT.

 

DIVA(narrating) It was late when Hashoe put on the Herman Brood CD. When the song "My Way" started playing, Frankie

grabbed the mike and started to sing with Herman. (Laughing) I never heard anything so funny in my life . . .

 

FRANKIE SINGS OFF-KEY AND STUMBLES ON THE ENGLISH WORDS. HE PASSES THE MIKE TO HASHOE.

HASHOE IS DRUNKER AND HE TRIES TO SING THE ENGLISH WORDS IN DUTCH UNTIL HE CAN'T KEEP UP

WITH THE SONG BUT SOUNDS LIKE HE IS TRYING TO YODEL AND DIE AT THE SAME TIME. THE MIKE

GOES TO JAN AND HE TRIES TO SING THE SONG BUT HE'S TOO DRUNK SO HE TRIES TO HUM IT. BY THIS

TIME, HASHOE'S DOGS START TO HOWL. PRETTY SOON, ALL THE DOGS IN ALKMAAR WHO ARE

LISTENING TO THE RADIO STATION BEGIN TO HOWL WITH HASHOE'S DOGS.

 

VARIETY OF SHOTS: THE BARTENDER'S BULLDOG AT THE PUB, THE RICH OLD LADY'S POODLE IN THE

HIGHRISE APARTMENT, THE GERMAN SHEPHERD THAT LIVES IN A SQUAT, THE MIXED DOG THAT LIVES

ON A SHIP ON THE CANAL. ALL HOWLING TO HASHOE AND HIS BOYS SINGING TO HERMAN BROOD.

 

THEY PASS THE MIC AROUND THE CIRCLE A COUPLE OF TIMES, EACH TIME SINGING WORSE. ANDREAS

SINGS THE END OF THE SONG WELL WITH ALL OF THE "SINGERS" DRUNKENLY HARMONIZING

TOGETHER AT THE END.

 

CAMERA ZOOMS OUT OF THE ROOM AND THROUGH THE CEILING UNTIL IT IS DISTANTLY ABOVE

HASHOE'S HOUSE. IT CONTINUES TO ZOOM OUT UNTIL THE CAMERA SEES THE LIGHTS OF ALKMAAR.

SONG REMAINS THE SAME LEVEL AS DOGS HOWL ALL OVER ALKMAAR TO IT.

 

CAMERA PANS UP TO A STARRY SKY. TWO SECONDS OF SILENCE FOLLOWED BY A BURST OF LAUGHTER

FROM EVERYONE AT THE PARTY, FOLLOWED BY A PAUSE

 

HASH (seriously and profe ssionally) You're listening to Sonic FM.

 

A FEW STARS TWINKLE BRIGHTER THAN THE OTHERS AND TWO FALL FROM THE SKY.
